Arts and Culture

Woods Fund of Chicago Arts and Culture Focus

The Woods Fund Board of Directors has decided to fully integrate arts and culture into the program areas of: community organizing, public policy and the intersection of community organizing and public policy. As a result, Woods will no longer offer a program area dedicated solely to arts and culture. However, Woods will give serious consideration to arts and culture organizations whose mission and activities align with one of the following goals:

  • Inspire, educate and mobilize less-advantaged individuals and communities to determine those issues that most impact them and to advance systemic solutions to address these issues
  • Serve as a critical component of direct actions and other efforts to advance public policy
  • Develop and identify tools to demonstrate the effective use of art and culture as a successful systems change strategy
  • Media, arts and communications strategies that raise awareness and educate the public and policy makers about low-wage workers' most common concerns, as well as viable policy solutions to those concerns
  • Use arts and culture to build bridges between community organizations and public policy groups to advance meaningful policy change that will positively impact less-advantaged individuals and communities
